What does judicial precedent means?

its suppose to mean what music man wrote but it ain't case in point when irwin schift was imprisoned for not paying taxes even though there's no a place in the constitution that says u must he brought cases where others where charged with that same claim got off by the supreme court he was denied presentation of that evidence and jailed by the state courts for 13 years. so i guess what i am saying is it means nothing
