Why are people more loyal to their political affiliation, rather than their country?

Because many people are attracted to political parties who embody their values. Sometimes people remain affixed to their values and those who represent them rather a thorough investigation of the issues and their possible effects. We have become a society of lazy citizens in the since that we willing to be led rather than to take the effort to hold our government accountable to it's citizens. A government that is not accountable to it's citizens is dangerous. Citizens that will voluntarily surrender their power in a democratic society because they are too lazy or distracted to get involved is even more dangerous. This is where we are heading unless we educate ourselves, blur the lines of partisanship and start holding our government accountable for their promises to the people.
