I'm confused about this guy. Help?

Okay, so there's this guy and when we first met it was during recess and he sat down next to me and said I looked like I had just robbed a bank, so i just sighed, got up and walked away. But, a few minutes later two other guys ran up to me and told me that he was obsessed with me and was planning to ask me out on Monday. I had never been asked out in my life and I thought he was making fun of me when earlier, so i said "no way!" I meant that I don't believe that they were telling me the truth, but before I could say anything else they ran away and told him i said no. I didn't see him for a few months after that until i got accepted to the school play and he did too. He would pat my head from behind whenever he pes by or walks behind me and when I turn around he would just smile at me and walk away (He would look and smile at me while walking until he was reasonably far). Today, we had to come in this because the show is next Friday and Saturday and we had two runs of the show and the second time was a dress rehearsal. I was wearing a sleeveless dress with pearls, make up and curled hair. So, while we were backstage he touched my arm and I said hello, so he smiled at me. Then, after about half an hour i was watching the show from backstage and he randomly started maging my neck/shoulders. When i turned around and saw him he smiled at me, but he stopped. By the way, he only did these when we had the dress rehearsal. I don't really know him that well, but i can tell that he's nice. Anyway, I'm so confused and i don't know what to do. I'm in 6th grade and he's in 7th, were the same age but he doesn't know that. (And I didn't fail, I moved from the Philippines 4 years ago). I don't think he meant anything bad, he seems really nice. If he asks me out again I don't want to be mean and I feel like I should give him a chance, but I don't think I'm ready to date yet. Anyway, my question is should i give him a chance or wait till I'm ready? Does he still like me? What did it mean when he was touching me?
